The dosage of a CBD oil needs to be followed carefully to benefit from all the good properties of CBD. Indeed, CBD oils are very trendy, but once you receive your order, it is not always obvious how many drops of that CBD oil you should take. Moreover, all products do not have the same CBD content. In this article, you’ll learn how to calculate your CBD oil dosage will find summary table to help you chose the right dose for your body and needs.
Cannabis is composed of many molecules called cannabinoids, the most known of which are cannabidiol (CBD), tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabigerol (CBG). While THC is considered an illegal substance because of its psychoactive nature, CBD is perfectly legal and offers a large number of benefits, without any undesirable effects or side effects.
Many consumers have observed a noticeable reduction in sleep disorders, but also in stress and anxiety. For others, a CBD oil will be used more to reduce chronic pain or to improve an overall body condition. Indeed, CBD oil offers anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, but also anti-anxiety properties. The effects of CBD are therefore numerous, whatever the profile and at any age.
Please note that the CBD oil dosage recommendations in this article are not the result of clinical studies supported by large-scale scientific research. Therefore, we recommend that you consult a physician and/or pharmacist before starting to take CBD regularly.
The recommendations for use and dosage in this article are of a general nature and apply only to products that have been approved for contact with the oral mucosa. In Switzerland, few CBD oils have received such an authorization that is why we invite you to refer to the warnings present on the product sheets of our store.
Unlike with drugs, there is no “correct” dosage of CBD that is right for everyone. This is due to the way CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system: most of its health benefits come from restoring homeostasis in the body. The rule of thumb is to start slowly with a recommended initial dose of 25 mg of CBD twice a day. Your CBD dosage can then be slowly increased every 3-4 weeks by adding another 25 mg per day until symptoms subside. However, if symptoms worsen, it is recommended to decrease the 25 mg dose. Just follow the reading of this article to calculate the right CBD dosage and the number of drops of CBD oil to take.
First of all, it is necessary to convert the volume (ml) of the oil into weight (mg):
Then simply use the density and multiply it by the volume of your product and its CBD concentration:
For the amount of CBD in a drop, the calculation is the same as for the whole bottle, as described above.
You just need to know that one drop of oil corresponds to about 0.04-0.05ml, so 1ml corresponds to about 20-25 drops. A 10ml bottle of CBD oil therefore contains between 200-250 drops.
Taking up our calculation above, for an oil with 20% CBD:
Several factors influence: the concentration of your CBD oil, if you consume it under the tongue or while cooking, the body weight, the symptoms and the needs, the type of hemp, etc. You will have understood it, to each one its dosage of CBD. The calculation of the CBD dosage is simple, here are the few points to know before adding the right product to the cart and home delivery.
The amount of CBD is measured in milligrams (mg), but most brands express it in concentration (%) on their bottle, indicating the percentage of CBD present in the product. The CBD dosage is different from the dosage, which refers to the amount of CBD per serving. To calculate the percentage of CBD in milligrams, here is a simple formula to follow.
Body weight and constitution also play a role in the amount of CBD needed. In general, lighter people or people with a low BMI require smaller doses of CBD than people with a higher percentage of body fat or a heavier frame.
Different doses are needed for different types of conditions and depending on the severity of symptoms. For example, patients suffering from chronic neuropathic pain will require a higher dose of CBD to reduce pain versus someone taking CBD to improve their health and well-being. Similarly, a user who uses CBD oil to reduce anxiety will not require as high a dose of CBD as a user with an immune system disorder.
In their book “CBD: A Patient’s Guide to Medicinal Cannabis-Healing without the High”, Leinow and Birnbaum classify the ailments to be treated and thus the dose of CBD to be taken in three categories, as summarized in the table below.
|Dose||Daily dose of CBD||Illnesses to treat|
|Micro-dose||1 - 20 mg||Headaches, sleep disorders, chronic moderate pain, nausea, stress, anxiety...|
|Dose standard||10 - 100 mg||Moderate to intense chronic pain, inflammation, autoimmune diseases, depression, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, irritable bowel...|
|Therapeutic dose||50 - 1 500 mg||Epileptic seizures, severe chronic pain, serious diseases...|
When a therapeutic substance is ingested, it must be absorbed by the body before it acts. This rate of absorption, as well as the amount administered that reaches the bloodstream unaltered, is called bioavailability.
The most effective method of taking any type of therapeutic compound is to administer it intravenously (as an injection). The substance passes directly into the bloodstream. Thus, it bypasses all other physiological systems usually associated with other forms of administration. Therefore, injection guarantees 100% bioavailability. Since CBD is not usually injected, it is useful to know the bioavailability of the different methods of consumption.
|Mode of administration||Bioavailability||Onset of action||Duration|
|Oral||4%-20%||30-90 min||± 7h|
|Sublingual||10%-20%||20-40 min||± 6h|
|Topical||Inconnue||60-90 min||± 6h|
|Inhalation||2%-56%||2-5 min||± 3h|
You will have understood, each one will need to find the good dosage for its CBD oil or its product containing cannabidiol. There is no rule or precise code. That being said, we have designed a CBD dosage chart as a guide so that you can easily find your correct dosage and dosage on a daily basis.

Just like the rest of the population, the consumption of CBD oils is extremely widespread among seniors. Indeed, cannabidiol from the hemp plant offers very complementary and milder benefits than drug treatments. They propose to feel more appeased, but also to reduce anxiety and certain chronic pains. However, it is advised to start with a dose of 2.5mg of CBD per day (under the tongue or in the form of capsules), then to increase the doses every 2 or 3 weeks until 5mg/day.
Because of the way CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, the side effects of CBD are low. It is non-toxic and no fatal overdose has ever been reported. However, as with everything, there is a line between just enough and too much. Reduce your CBD dose if any of the following CBD symptoms or side effects occur, whether using CBD drops or other products:
Anxiety / depression
Nausea / vomiting
Changes in appetite
